Angela Kim Couture is not a boutique that sells or alters existing gowns. Every dress is an original couture commission: designed to a bride's vision and drafted to her exact measurements, hand-constructed, and fitted to her body. The atelier takes a limited number of commissions each year.

## The Designer

Angela Kim — founder and sole designer. A Korean-American couture bridal designer with over 23 years of professional experience in the international fashion industry (nearly 30 including formal training). She holds a Master's degree in fashion design from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, worked as a fashion designer and fashion merchandiser internationally, launched the ready-to-wear label Angela Kim Designs in 2015, was a finalist for the Belk Southern Designer Showcase in 2016, and founded Angela Kim Couture in 2017 to focus exclusively on bespoke bridal design. She works in English and Korean.

Final price depends on fabric, design complexity, and level of hand embellishment. Most commissions fall in the $9,000–$25,000 range.

## Process

A couture commission takes about 10–14 months (plus roughly 3 more if custom fabric is created); brides are encouraged to begin at least 12–14 months before the wedding.

Remote clients (most of the atelier's brides) are served nationwide through the Angela Kim Remote Fitting System™ (see below): a mailed measurement kit, a mock-up ("toile") dress sent by mail, and video (FaceTime/Zoom) fittings. Each gown is built to the bride's body from the first cut — not fitted from a standard size and altered later — so brides thousands of miles away receive gowns that fit beautifully on arrival.

## The Angela Kim Remote Fitting System™

The Angela Kim Remote Fitting System™ is Angela Kim's signature method for fitting couture wedding dresses remotely, so distance never compromises fit. It adapts the haute couture toile tradition to distance and has five stages: The Guided Measurement (a mailed Fitting Kit and a guided video measurement, using only the measurements a given design requires, drawn from a master set of couture measurement points), The Toile Post (a full mock-up gown mailed to the bride), The Video Fitting (a directed pin-and-pen fitting over video, with one helper), The Return Post (the marked toile mailed back before the final gown is cut), and The Final Delivery. It also includes the 80% Rule for brides planning to change their body before the wedding: by the first mock-up fitting the bride should have reached at least 80% of her target measurements, confirmed together, so the gown is cut to her wedding-day body. Design and construction are identical whether a bride is fitted in person in Asheville or remotely — only the fittings differ.
