After nearly 20 years in the international fashion industry, I relocated to the mountains of Western North Carolina in 2011. I was drawn to wedding dress design because it allows me to use my creative full skill set while connecting with each client on a more personal level - weaving their inspirations, style and story into their dream dresses. As a designer, I stay true to my signature aesthetics: feminine, timeless, classic, and elegant.
My Story
A South Korean-born New Zealander, I completed my Master’s course in fashion design at Ewha Women’s University in Seoul before working as a fashion designer and merchandiser in the fast-paced, competitive markets of both New Zealand and Korea.
This global perspective led me to launch my ready-to-wear brand, Angela Kim Designs, in 2015. In 2016, I was honored to be selected as a finalist for the Belk Southern Designer Showcase.
In 2017, I founded Angela Kim Couture to focus exclusively on bespoke bridal design — a space where I could devote the time, precision, and care each bride deserves. Since then, I have had the privilege of creating many one-of-a-kind wedding gowns, each shaped by the woman who wears it. No two brides are the same, and no two dresses are ever alike.
My Philosophy
I believe in the power of fashion — that thoughtful design can shape how a woman sees herself.
When I design a gown, I think about how my brides will feel when they wear it. I am not creating dresses for idealized bodies or runway models. That has never been the purpose of my work. I design for real women — women whose bodies have lived, changed, and carry their own stories.
Everyone deserves to feel beautiful. My role is to help each bride discover the silhouette, proportion, and color that allow her to feel confident and at ease in her own skin. There is something deeply meaningful about helping a woman prepare for such an important day. Refining the details, shaping the right look, and seeing it come together — that is the part I value most.
