Every Angela Kim gown is designed from scratch around one bride — never altered from an existing design, never assembled from pre-made components. You can experience the process in person at the Asheville atelier, or from anywhere in the country through the Angela Kim Remote Fitting System™. Everything about how your gown is designed and made is identical either way. The only thing that changes is how fit is handled — and that is exactly what the Remote Fitting System was built to solve.
Design & materials
Design consultation. Your journey begins with a private consultation — by video or in person — to understand you, your aesthetic, and your wedding. From it, Angela develops hand-drawn sketches and a detailed proposal. This is also where you share anything that will change your body before the wedding, so your fittings can be planned around it.
Fabrics. Angela sources from the world’s finest textile houses — the same suppliers trusted by luxury fashion maisons — and can develop custom fabrics and embellishments exclusively for your gown.
Pricing. Once your design and materials are confirmed, you receive a tailored estimate based on the scope and craftsmanship required.
Construction & embellishment
Construction. Once your fit is confirmed, your gown is constructed entirely from scratch — no prefabricated elements, no archived components, no pre-designed bases. It is built by the finest specialist wedding-dress workrooms in the world — the same caliber of ateliers that produce for leading bridal houses — working from Angela’s technical packs and her continuous, hands-on direction of pattern and sewing. This is how virtually every designer house works: the designer designs, drapes, and judges fit; skilled specialist teams execute the construction. You approve each stage yourself with photos and video, so nothing about your design is ever a surprise.
Embellishment. Beading and embellishments are hand-applied to your specifications — placement, density, and materials decided together with you, and confirmed at every stage before the work is finalized.
Your fittings — in person
If you can come to the Asheville atelier, your fittings happen the traditional couture way. Angela takes a detailed body analysis and measurements in person. A toile — a full mockup of your gown in similar fabric — is then fitted directly on your body, so silhouette and proportion are perfected before your gown is cut. At your final fitting the finished gown is perfected in person, and Angela guides your complete bridal styling — shoes, accessories, hair, and makeup.

The Angela Kim Remote Fitting System™
The Angela Kim Remote Fitting System™ is the method I developed so that distance never compromises fit. It brings the haute couture toile tradition to your door, so your gown is built to your body from the start — not fitted from a standard size and altered later. Brides across the country, including some I have never met in person, have received gowns through it that fit beautifully on arrival. The system has five stages:
1. The Guided Measurement & The Fitting Kit
Before we measure, I mail you The Fitting Kit — a measuring tape, safety pins, straight pins, and a fabric marking pen that you keep through the whole process. Then, live on video, I guide you and one helper through each measurement your design requires, drawn from a master set of couture measurement points. Only the measurements your specific gown needs are sent to you — your measurement chart is made for your design.
2. The Toile Post
Following haute couture tradition, a toile — a full mockup of your gown in fabric of similar weight and behavior — is made to my exact specifications and posted to your door, along with your fitting checklist. This tests fit and proportion before a single piece of your real fabric is cut.
3. The Video Fitting
You wear the toile with your actual wedding undergarments, joined by one helper of your choice — a friend, a family member, or a local seamstress. On our video call I direct your helper exactly where to pin, what to mark with the pen, and which photos and video to capture. You never have to judge the fit yourself; your helper is simply my hands. Most gowns need only one toile; if the first fit is too far off, a second — partial or full — is made at my discretion.
4. The Return Post
You post the toile back to me with every pin and pen mark intact. Your final gown is cut only after your marked toile is in my hands — the toile becomes a precise, wearable record of your body.
5. The Final Delivery
Your finished gown is shipped to you, and we hold a final fitting over video. Because your design and details were approved at every stage, this is about fit and finish, not change. Should your body change within the range we discussed, any fit adjustment is on me: returned to me and handled under my direction, or done by a seamstress near you working from my exact instructions.
The 80% Rule
If you are planning to change your body before the wedding, the system plans for it instead of hoping for the best. You share your goal and timeline at the first consultation, and by your first mockup fitting you should have reached at least 80% of your target measurements. We then confirm the final numbers together — honestly — so your final gown is cut to the body you will actually have on your wedding day, not the one you had months earlier.

Angela does not alter existing designs or assemble dresses from pre-made components. Every gown is designed and constructed uniquely for the bride who wears it.

Frequently asked questions
Can a custom wedding dress really fit without an in-person fitting?
Yes — if the fitting is engineered for distance rather than improvised. With the Angela Kim Remote Fitting System™, a real toile of your gown travels to you, is pinned and marked on your body under my live direction, and returns to my atelier before your final gown is cut. One of my remote brides in Colorado put it this way: “Her communication and process were so thoughtful, the distance didn’t make any impact at all.”
Do I need to find a seamstress in my city?
No. You only need one helper — anyone with two careful hands. I direct every pin and every mark over video. Some brides do choose to hold their Video Fitting at a local seamstress’s studio, and if a finished gown ever needs a local adjustment, I can brief that seamstress directly with exact working instructions.
